Ron Howard is known as a film director. However, he first became famous as an actor starring in the 1960s and 1970s films. Having quit his career as an actor, he has directed plenty of movies, including the blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, and its loud sequel, Angels & Demons. The film is grounded on the novel written by Dan Brown, the author of The Da Vinci Code that made the humanity split into two groups: those who are for it and those who are against it, inclusive of the Church. Although The Da Vinci Code was prohibited in a great many countries, a large number of viewers around the world have viewed the movie. Angels & Demons uses the idea of a historical conflict between the Roman Catholic Church and science vividly depicted in The Da Vinci Code movie. The plot of the film Angels & Demons gives prominence the intentions of Harvard University historian and iconologist Robert Langdon to uncover the enigmas of a secret society known as the Illuminati. The Vatican faces a crisis when the top four cardinals to substitute the deceased Pontiff are abducted by the Illuminati that adhere to scientific truth. The Church is promised that each cardinal will be put to death one per hour starting at 8 pm, culminating with an explosion of an antimatter bomb under St Peter's Cathedral sharp at midnight destroying the sacred city. To face down the nasty menace, the Church calls upon the services of religious iconologist Robert Langdon played by Tom Hanks who knows a lot about the Illuminati. He has to start the investigation immediately, hurrying to find the abducted cardinals by deciphering clues, symbols and other historical facts. Robert Langton together with physicist Vittoria tries to reveal the death of the Pontiff and save the Vatican. The images of Rome in the movie are splendid and picturesque. The viewer has an opportunity to walk around Rome and visit the most famous historical and cultural places of interest together with the film characters. The movie does well to engross interest through its explanations of history and the inside organisation of the Vatican. The plot keeps the viewer involved and interested until the very end of the movie. The story unfolds with extraordinary twists and turns that leave the watcher thrilled. |
